Conifers (also known as pine) are one of the 13 or 14 phylum of the vegetable kingdom. The conifers are gymnosperms, with the seeds protected by cones. All conifers are woody trunk, with most of them to be trees, while a few are shrubs. The phylum includes 8 families, 68 genera and 630 species. Although the number of species is small, the role of conifers has great ecological significance because they dominate vast areas of land, as in the taiga in the northern hemisphere and they consist the raw materials for wood and paper.
